Hygiene & Well-being, Dance etiquette and moreDrink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. A towel, your deodorant, a spare t-shirt if you are doing more than one class, and something like mints to keep your breath fresh are always appreciated for partnered dance classes. Safety, of ourselves and our dance friends, is our priority, as well as the values of being accepting, kind and encouraging, and respectful to others whether it's in a class or social setting. Here is a link to our dance etiquette and code of conduct that we expect and uphold for our classes and community :) - https://www.cloud9zouk.com.au/post/cloud9zouk-code-of-behaviour-and-dance-etiquette

Which is better: private lessons or group classes?Private lessons offer individual attention, allowing you to learn at your own pace and correct bad habits with focused repetition, leading to rapid improvement. Group classes are great for practicing lead and follow, repetition, and making new friends. We recommend a combination of both for most individuals.
-
Can I dance only with my partner?Yes. The rotation is not compulsory. Just tell the teacher your preference of not rotating partners before each class. However we highly encourage you to change partners, as it speeds and improve your learning.
-
Do you have Gift Certificates?Yes, gift certificates are available for classes and/or private lessons. These are very popular for special occasions such as birthdays, Christmas, Valentines Day and Weddings.
-
What clothes/shoes should I wear for latin dancing (Zouk, Salsa, Bachata, etc.)?Clothes: Wear comfortable, smart casual attire that allows easy movement. Avoid tight or long skirts, ties, long-sleeved shirts, or anything too warm or restrictive. Shoes: Avoid thongs, slippers, mules, or open-toe sandals. Start with flat shoes or low heels with an ankle strap. Later, you can invest in proper jazz or Latin dance shoes. Ladies: Wear high heels only if you are confident in them.
-
Do you have open night or Trial night?Yes we do! OPEN NIGHT: every 7 weeks we will have a $10 trial night on week 1 with bring your friends deal of '2 for $15' or '3 for $21'. Our weeknight classes are progressive, and we keep building over the term to give you a nice little 'toolkit' of movements for Zouk social dancing. WEEKEND TRIALS: We usually have an Intro beginner class at the start of our parties, run by our wonderful volunteers. It is included in the party entry and is a great way to try Zouk & see and meet the community.

What happens If I miss a class? Can I catch up another day? Please see Terms and Conditions of your passes and/or membership. Each week we revise previous week's movements, and we highly recommend taking private lessons if you feel you'd like some extra help or to keep you up to speed if you're missing group classes.
-
Do I need a partner or Experience to enrol for a couples/partner dancing style? You don’t need a partner or experience, although it is always better and more fun to bring friends along! We rotate the students in the class so everyone can have a go, however we are unable to guarantee exactly 50/50 ratio of leaders to followers every week due to absences. But for the most part the class ratio is fairly even, and you'll have the opportunity to dance with everyone. :)
-
Can I do casual classes? We offer a 7-week syllabus term with a Bootcamp on week 4. To avoid disrupting the class progress, we recommend starting at the beginning of any 7-week term or after attending the Bootcamp. This ensures you can learn from the start and progress along with everyone else.
-
How long are the classes, which nights of the week & how can I enrol? All classes run for 1 hour (except special classes, performance classes and workshops), with a few minutes to allow for class changeover. We run Intro beginner lessons for 2 Latin styles: Zouk (6pm) & Lambada (7:15pm) on Tuesday nights at 10 Moreton St, Paddington, Brisbane 4064. Enrolments are easy: Just book our 3 weeks Taster Trial ($85) which includes 6 classes over the 3 weeks. Book here: https://www.cloud9zouk.com.au/newtodance
